answer text <p>We recognise the benefits to people of avoiding a mental health crisis by ensuring that they get the mental health support they need as soon as possible through prevention, early intervention and community-based mental health services. answer text <p>We continue to invest in National Health Service talking therapy services so that people can access a range of evidence-based psychological therapies approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. The NHS Long Term Plan committed an additional £2.3 billion a year to expand and transform NHS mental health services in England by 2023/24. This includes the ambition to increase access to NHS talking therapy services to cover a total of 1.9 million adults and older adults.</p><p> </p><p>An independent report by the Centre for Mental Health has demonstrated the impact of social approaches to preventing and promoting better mental health at a local level. To address the mental health impacts arising from the COVID-19 pandemic and reduce mental health inequalities, the £15 million Better Mental Health Fund invested in 314 local projects promoting better mental health and wellbeing in 40 of the most deprived local authority across England in 2021/22.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the responses we received to our call for evidence to inform our mental health plans have been analysed and will be considered as part of the development of mental health policies in the Major Conditions Strategy.</p>

answer text <p>On 23 January 2023, we set out details on how £150 million of capital investment, first announced at the 2021 Spending Review, will be used to improve mental health urgent and emergency care infrastructure. This includes funding for 150 schemes across the country on a fair shares basis, reaching all 42 integrated care boards.</p><p>This will support the building and expanding of capacity for health-based places of safety, section 136 suites and mental health assessment, care and treatment units. It will also support crisis cafes, crisis houses and broader improvements to crisis lines and accident and emergency departments, as well as the procurement of up to 100 specialised mental health ambulances over the next two years. This will provide care in more appropriate spaces for those experiencing a mental health crisis and will reduce pressure on wider parts of the healthcare system.</p> more like this

NHS England are leading the centralised procurement of the up to 100 mental health ambulances as part of the £150 million capital investment detailed on Monday 23 January at a total cost of £7 million. This total cost is based on a national co-designed specification and benchmark averages.</p><p>The £150 million capital investment is also already supporting over 25 schemes which will provide new or improved health-based places of safety and Section 136 suites. Further allocations from the funding are currently being considered by NHS England.</p><p>Staffing requirements, training needs, and management arrangements for mental health urgent and emergency care will vary depending on the services and facilities provided in local areas. We are supporting the mental health workforce including through the ambition to deliver an additional 27,000 mental health staff by the end of 2023/24.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The current Code of Practice requires that a series of reviews are undertaken when a patient is placed in seclusion or segregation, of which some must be independent. We are currently in the process of reforming the Mental Health Act and will revise its Code of Practice accordingly. As part of this, we will review this chapter of the code to ensure that it reflects best practice, including for people with a learning disability and autistic people.</p><p>The draft Mental Health Bill was published in June 2022 and is currently undergoing pre-legislative scrutiny by a Joint Committee. The Committee published its recommendations on 19 January 2023 and we will introduce the Bill when parliamentary time allows.</p> more like this
