There is no uniform approach to decarbonisation and each place has its role to
play in ensuring the UK meets its target of net zero by 2020. Using place-based solutions
for emissions reduction is one of the six strategic priorities in the Transport Decarbonisation
Plan. We recognise that for transport, local and regional level organisations are
often best placed to make the decisions that will deliver practical change. Local
authorities are a key part of this picture, and we have committed to publish a Local
Authority Toolkit that will provide guidance to support local areas to deliver more
sustainable transport measures. We will support decarbonisation by investing more
than £12 billion in local transport systems over the current Parliament, enabling
local authorities to invest in local priorities, such as improving electric vehicle
charging infrastructure.
