answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/02/2020 answer text <p>The UK’s ambition to end the preventable deaths of mothers, new-borns and children by 2030 is supported by our commitment to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and addressing malnutrition through Nutrition for Growth.</p><p> </p><p>The UK’s £1.44 billion of support to Gavi between 2016-2020 has saved 1.4 million lives from vaccine-preventable diseases in 68 of the world’s poorest countries. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/02/2020 answer text <p>DFID has a substantial and growing portfolio of programmes supporting sustainable energy in Africa.</p><p>This includes providing finance for off-grid energy systems to reach the rural poor in Africa, technical assistance to improve African countries’ renewable energy policies, and investing in clean energy research and innovation such as the Faraday Battery Challenge and the Ayrton Fund.</p><p>CDC, the UK’s development finance institution, also invests in sustainable energy companies, for example in the world’s largest pay-as-you-go solar company, Kenya’s M-Kopa Solar, as well as Mettle Solar in South Africa, and PEG in Ghana.</p><p>The commitment that the UK will double its spend on international climate finance to £11.6 billion by 2026 will lead to increased UK commitment to the provision of sustainable energy in Sub-Saharan Africa.</p> answering member constituency Rochford and Southend East answering member printed James Duddridge question first answered 18/02/2020 17:41:49 answering member 1559 label Biography information for Sir James Duddridge

As the Independent Commission for Aid Impact report highlights, this Government is building mutually beneficial partnerships that go wider than aid, towards the trade and business relationships that can deliver quality investment, drive growth and create the jobs that developing countries need to lift millions out of poverty. The aim is to build self-sustaining economies that can generate their own financing through increased tax revenue and private investment.</p><p> </p><p>This approach to international development is a key example of how the government is bringing together all our capabilities to end extreme poverty. The UK’s commitment to Gavi is also central to our work to end preventable deaths of mothers, new-borns and children by 2030.</p><p> </p><p>Gavi’s next strategic period is critically important for the UK as we work together to improve intra-country equity and coverage. Immunisation is often a child’s first point of contact with their health service. By extending routine immunisation to reach the underserved, particularly zero-dose children who have never been vaccinated, Gavi is building a foundation for stronger national health systems. We also used contractors to design and run the series of pre-events, to undertake analysis of trade and investment trends, and to assess the Summit's impact.
