question text To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act, enacted by the United States Congress, and in particular of provision regarding the negotiation of the prevention of genocide and other atrocity crimes as a core national security interest and moral responsibility; and whether they have any plans to introduce similar legislation to protect Christians and other religious minority groups. more like this

answer text
The British Government has noted this US legislation but has not had an opportunity to consider it in detail. Atrocity prevention is integrated into the UK's overall approach to conflict prevention. Reducing conflict and building stability overseas are National Security Strategy priorities, referred to in the Building Stability Overseas Strategy 2011, and the National Security Strategy and Strategic Defence Review 2015, which was endorsed by the National Security Capability Review in 2018. There are no plans to introduce legislation on genocide related to religious groups.
more like this

question text To ask Her Majesty's Government, further to the Written Answer by Baroness Williams of Trafford on 21 January (HL12624) that “the Home Office does not electronically record the grounds on which an individual claims asylum” and that they cannot identify the origins of persecuted minorities, whether they intend to (1) review that policy, and (2) collect such data in the future. more like this

answer text
The basis of a person’s asylum claim is recorded on their individual Home Office file, but not in a way that can be easily aggregated, so we cannot provide figures on how many claims are brought by particular persecuted minorities, or the nature of claims brought by those attempting to travel to the UK in small vessels.

As such, this information could only be obtained at disproportionate cost because it would require a manual search through individual records.

We keep all policy under regular review.
more like this
