answer text <p>In the event of a ‘no deal’, the Government will seek to bring into force bilateral agreements from exit day (29 March 2019) or as soon as possible thereafter.</p><p> </p><p>Ministers and officials are engaging regularly with partner countries to complete this work and are making good progress. For example, the Swiss Federal Council have approved the text of a UK-Swiss Free Trade Agreement that replicates the effects of the existing EU-Swiss arrangements as far as possible.</p><p> </p><p>However, when we reach agreement will depend on the progress of these ongoing discussions. The Government will inform Parliament and the public when agreements are signed.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement with the EU, the UK will be free to negotiate, sign, and ratify FTAs during the Implementation Period.</p><p> </p><p>During the Backstop, if it were ever to come into effect, we would be free to operate our own independent trade policy, including by negotiating our own FTAs, and implementing the areas that don’t affect the functioning of the backstop - including services and investment.</p><p> </p><p>As agreed in the Political Declaration, the UK’s future relationship with the EU must recognise the development of an independent UK trade policy. The government has been clear that we will not be in the Single Market or the Customs Union as part of this.</p> more like this

We have agreed with the EU that we will be able to negotiate, sign and ratify new trade deals during the Implementation Period.</p><p> </p><p>As recognised in the Political Declaration, the UK’s future relationship with the EU will need to recognise the development of an independent UK trade policy.</p> more like this
