answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2018 answer text <p>Occupational, personal and public service pension schemes are defined in section 1 of the Pension Schemes Act 1993.</p><p> </p><p>A public service pension scheme is an occupational pension scheme established by or under an enactment, the Royal prerogative or a Royal charter, unlike other occupational pension schemes which are set up under trust.</p><p> </p><p>Pension and tax laws may prescribe certain minimum or maximum requirements regarding the benefits that a pension scheme may provide. Beyond that, the type, level and eligibility criteria for benefits due under the scheme are a matter for the sponsoring employer. Where parents have missed out on Tax-Free Childcare payments HMRC will pay compensation to reimburse them.</p><p> </p><p>As at 12 March 2018, HMRC has paid a total of £1,880,859 to parents in lieu of missed Tax-Free Childcare payments and the average payment was £280. HMRC also makes redress payments to recompense parents for inconvenience and expenses such as telephone calls to the helpline.
