answer text
Direct entry offers the opportunity to widen the talent pool from where we attract our police officers and will bring in people from a diverse range of backgrounds. The introduction of direct entry allowed professionals from other sectors to join policing at a senior rank for the first time. These individuals have demonstrated that it is possible to join at this rank and gain the skills and competencies required to perform the job while also bringing a fresh perspective to police leadership.

The College of Policing is responsible for delivery of the direct entry scheme and will be publishing an evaluation fo the implementation of direct entry next year.

more like this

answer text
The Review of the Youth Justice System in England and Wales, published in December 2016, considered the use of programmes in which either prison officers or prisoners themselves attempted to deter children from criminality by showing or explaining the realities of life in prison. The report of the Review expressed concern at the use of such programmes in England & Wales, in the light of international evidence that such interventions can increase the likelihood of offending among children and young people.

In view of the report’s examination of this issue, HM Prison & Probation Service reviewed these programmes and decided that they should no longer be facilitated.
more like this
