It is investing £1 billion in grassroots sport in England between 2012-2017. About half of this, £493 million, is being invested in national governing of bodies of sport which work in all regions of England. Sport England also awards grants directly to sports clubs and projects through a range of specific funds according to the strength of applications received and evidence of local need.
