This means that we have yet to receive the final text, which would be needed to assess the impacts of the final negotiated outcome, including which commercial sectors would benefit. This text is unlikely to be available for some time since the EU and Mercosur are still finalising the details of the agreement, which will then need to undergo legal review and official translation.</p><p>We welcome the news of political conclusion between the EU and Mercosur on a Free Trade Agreement. As a global champion of trade, the UK has been a strong advocate for these negotiations. The UK has longstanding positive bilateral relationships with individual Mercosur countries and we look forward to deepening our trading ties as we leave the EU. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/07/2019 answer text <p>It is important that universities focus on ensuring that their graduates have the skills needed, including technical, vocational and transferable skills, to gain a positive outcome from their degree. The higher education regulator, the Office for Students’ (OfS), primary aim is to ensure that higher education delivers positive outcomes for students and it has a regulatory focus to ensure that students are able to progress into employment or further study.</p><p>The government is supporting regional growth and retention of graduates in a number of ways. For example, on 16 May 2019, the OfS announced £5.6 million funding for 15 projects aiming to support the transition to highly skilled employment and improve outcomes for graduates who seek employment in their home region. Details of this can be found here, and are also attached:</p><p><a href="https://www.officeforstudents.org.uk/news-blog-and-events/press-and-media/no-place-like-home/" target="_blank">https://www.officeforstudents.org.uk/news-blog-and-events/press-and-media/no-place-like-home/</a></p><p>Similarly, the UK Research and Innovation “Strength in Places Fund” is a competitive fund for collaborative bids between research institutions and businesses to support significant regional growth through research and innovation. As part of Budget 2018, £10 million was announced to fund up to 10 further zones. question text	To ask Her Majesty's Government what recent assessment they have made of the impact on overseas student numbers wishing to study in the UK of the UK leaving the EU without a deal.

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/07/2019 answer text <p>The recently published International Education Strategy stated the government’s ambition to increase the number of international students hosted by UK universities to 600,000 by 2030, from 458,000 currently. The government is committed to this ambition regardless of the outcome of negotiations with the EU. We have made no estimate of the number of overseas students that will attend UK higher education institutions (HEIs) in the future.</p><p>The department recognises that prospective students and providers are concerned about what EU exit means for study and collaboration opportunities. To help give certainty, on May 28 2019, we announced guarantees on student finance for EU nationals. These guarantees are not altered if the UK leaves the EU without a deal. EU nationals (and their family members) who start a course in England in the 2020/21 academic year or before will continue to be eligible for ‘home fee’ status and student finance support from Student Finance England for the duration of their course provided they meet the residency requirement. We will provide sufficient notice for prospective EU students on fee arrangements ahead of the 2021/22 academic year and subsequent years in future.</p><p>We have also provided certainty for EU nationals wanting to come to the UK after Brexit. In the event that a deal is not agreed with the EU, arrangements for European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss citizens arriving for 3 months or less after free movement ends will not look any different. To stay longer than 3 months during the transitional period, newly arrived EEA and Swiss citizens will need to apply for permission. Subject to identity and criminality checks, they will be given European Temporary Leave to Remain for a further 36 months. If EEA or Swiss citizens want to stay in the UK for longer than 36 months, for example to complete a 4-year course, they will need to apply and qualify for an immigration status under the main study routes of the UK’s new skills-based immigration system. Last year overall trade grew by 14% to £20.5bn in comparison to 2017.</p><p> </p><p>The UK-India Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) allows for Ministerial discussion on our trade interests with the Indian Government. In 2016, both sides agreed to set up a Joint Working Group on Trade reporting to the JETCO with a specific aim of addressing non-tariff trade barriers. Excellent progress is being made in unlocking barriers in specific sectors. The government agrees with the recommendation made by the Committee of University Chairs (CUC) in its senior staff remuneration code that vice chancellors should not sit on the committee that sets their pay.</p><p> </p><p>The government set up the regulator, the Office for Students (OfS), to regulate the higher education sector and to ensure the sector is delivering real value for money. The OfS has said that universities should, as a minimum, be following the CUC senior staff remuneration code.
