We intend to invest over £66 million between 2014 and 2024 on work to directly tackle the illegal wildlife trade in animals and plants, including to reduce demand, strengthen enforcement, ensure effective legal frameworks and develop sustainable alternative livelihoods.</p><p> </p><p>We are working across Government to define the objectives for the UK’s G7 Presidency in 2021. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/09/2020 answer text <p>The UK plays a leading role in driving the global response to eradicate illegal wildlife trade and regularly holds discussions with its international counterparts.</p><p> </p><p>In 2018, the UK convened the largest ever global Illegal Wildlife Trade conference at which 65 countries signed up to the London Declaration, committing to take urgent, coordinated action against illegal wildlife trade.</p><p> </p><p>Since then, the UK has raised the importance of tackling illegal wildlife trade to protect biodiversity and endangered species with other countries during regular bilaterals and during meetings under international agreements such as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).</p> answering member constituency Banbury answering member printed Victoria Prentis question first answered 01/09/2020 11:03:31 answering member 4401 label Biography information for Victoria Prentis

We are aware of concerns raised in relation to the illegal trade in tigers and tiger farms and remain fully committed to working with our international partners, including through CITES, to ensure strong protection is in place and to bring an end to the illegal trade in wildlife.</p><p> </p><p>A consultation on controls on the import and export of hunting trophies to and from the UK was undertaken between 2 November 2019 and 25 February 2020. We are, however, continuing to work on this important area and will publish the summary of responses as soon as it is practical to do so.</p><p> </p><p>The international trade in wildlife is a complex matter, touching on environmental, social, and economic aspects. There are strong rules in place, both in the UK and internationally, to ensure any such trade is sustainable. We will remain at the forefront of ensuring these are sufficient, including through our active participation in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) where we have pushed for strong restrictions on trade in endangered species where such trade is shown to contribute to a species’ decline. We will remain at the forefront of ensuring these remain sufficient, including through international fora such as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, the World Organisation for Animal Health, the World Trade Organization and the World Customs Organization.
