answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/11/2023 answer text <p>The reintroduction of any species in England should follow our published guidance and Code for Reintroductions, which provides the best practice for assessing the benefits and impacts of releasing a species into the wild. The appropriateness of a reintroduction proposal will be highly dependent on the specific circumstances in which it is made, for example the surrounding environmental conditions, socio-economic circumstances, or species already present in that location. The codes summarise important information for owners and helps them to make decisions about how best to care for their animals.</p><p> </p><p>Under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018, licensed pet sellers are required to provide prospective owners information setting out how the animal’s health and welfare needs should be met.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, my Department maintains a national communications campaign (Petfished) to raise awareness of issues associated with low-welfare and illegal supply of cats and dogs. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/10/2023 answer text <p>Giant hogweed is listed as a species of special concern under the Invasive Alien Species (Enforcement and Permitting) Order 2019, which makes an offence of planting or otherwise causing giant hogweed to grow in the wild. As giant hogweed is widespread in the UK, there is no legal requirement to report it, nor is it compulsory to remove it. Although there are currently no plans for a large-scale eradication of giant hogweed, we support local eradication projects where this is feasible as part of management measures for this species.</p><p> </p><p>Defra, in collaboration with Natural England and Environment Agency, has published <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prevent-the-spread-of-harmful-invasive-and-non-native-plants" target="_blank">guidance</a> on how to stop the spread and dispose of invasive non-native plants that can harm the environment in England.</p><p> </p><p>The GB Non-Native Species Secretariat <a href="https://www.nonnativespecies.org/non-native-species/information-portal/view/1705%E2%80%AF%E2%80%AF" target="_blank">website</a> is the primary site for publicly available information on individual invasive species such as giant hogweed and includes links to management guidance documents produced by a range of organisations. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/10/2023 answer text <p>Local Authorities have a statutory responsibility under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to inspect their areas from ‘time to time’ to identify and require the remediation of any land.</p><p> </p><p>The Government recognises that in particularly severe or complex cases Landfill Tax can act as a prohibitive financial barrier to the remediation and redevelopment of contaminated land. My Department held a Call for Evidence on this issue and published a Government response in March this year.
