answer text
We have raised the detention of People's Democratic Party (HDP) Members of Parliament, most recently in January regarding the case of Ms Leyla Guven MP. We regularly discuss these issues with the HDP itself. We expect Turkey, as a modern democracy, to undertake legal processes against MPs fairly, transparently and with full respect for the rule of law. We will continue to monitor both the imprisionment of HDP MPs, and the wider Kurdish issue closely.
more like this

answer text
The Government has made it clear that Ministers must be consulted whenever UK intelligence and security personnel involved in an operation believe that a detainee is at serious risk of mistreatment by a foreign state. The Consolidated Guidance sets out the principles, consistent with UK domestic law and international law obligations, which govern the interviewing of detainees overseas and the passing and receipt of intelligence relating to detainees. The guidance is used by and must be adhered to by officers of the UK’s intelligence and security agencies, members of the UK’s armed forces and employees of the Ministry of Defence. The Investigatory Powers Commissioner, Lord Justice Fulford, has oversight of compliance of the Consolidated Guidance.
more like this

answer text
The Department for International Trade leads on this issue. Most recently, the Secretary of State for International Trade met his Ecuadorean counterpart, Mr Pablo Campana, on 24 January. Discussions focused on replicating the current broader EU-Andean Free Trade Agreement into a bilateral agreement with the UK, to ensure there is no disruption to our trading relationship as we leave the EU. More widely, British Government officials, including our Ambassador in Quito, are in regular contact with the Ecuadorean government on a variety of bilateral issues, including the economic relationship. UK goods exports to Ecuador more than doubled following the entry into force of the EU Ecuador Trade Agreement in January 2017.
more like this

answer text
Delivering the deal negotiated with the EU remains the Government's top priority. This has not changed. As set out in the Political Declaration on the future relationship between the UK and EU, the Government has offered to cooperate closely on defence and security as part of an ambitious Security Partnership. This would be on a case-by-case basis, where of mutual benefit.

While our focus remains on securing agreement with the EU, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, like the rest of Government, is also preparing for "No Deal". In a No Deal scenario, the UK would have to withdraw from Common Security and Defence Policy missions and operations - both military and civilian - and withdraw associated personnel seconded to the EU institutions. The UK would continue to act through other multilateral fora, including through the UN and NATO, and the UK’s cooperation and collaboration on security and defence with individual EU Member States will continue.
more like this
