All parties need to find a peaceful solution to the complex underlying causes of these incidents.

Inter-communal clashes between farmers and herdsmen in Nigeria, over land, farming rights, grazing routes and access to water have a devastating impact on lives and communities. We emphasise the importance of protecting civilians, including ethnic and religious minorities, with the Nigerian authorities, at the highest level. We welcome President Buhari's commitment to focus on bringing the perpetrators of such attacks to justice and examining longer term peaceful solutions to the conflict.
more like this

His absence will be a great loss to the Court given Sir Christopher’s outstanding record of service to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and to the promotion of international law. His expertise and diligence are recognised by all who have worked with him or been taught by him in the UK and internationally.

Notwithstanding the absence of a British judge on the Court after the end of Sir Christopher’s term, the UK will continue to support the work of the ICJ in line with our commitment to the importance of the rule of law in the UN system and in the international community more generally.

As a founding member of the UN, a permanent member of the Security Council and the UN’s third largest donor, the UK will continue to shape and influence the global agenda for a safer, healthier, more prosperous world.

answer text
Whilst we have seen a welcome reduction in armed conflict between Government forces and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), the security and humanitarian situation remains fragile in the Two Areas (South Kordofan and Blue Nile), and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We engage regularly with the Government of Sudan and opposition groups to promote conflict resolution in Sudan, most recently during a November visit, with his Troika counterparts, by the UK Special Representative for Sudan and South Sudan.

We welcomed the signing of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) Roadmap Agreement by the Government of Sudan and the Sudan Call alliance of opposition groups. However, we are disappointed that since the signing of the Roadmap, no progress has been made. We urge all sides to return urgently to the negotiating table so that steps can be taken towards a permanent ceasefire. I raised this issue directly with the Government of Sudan during the fourth round of the UK-Sudan Strategic Dialogue in October.
