answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/06/2023 answer text <p>The Home Office has a statutory obligation to provide accommodation and other support to asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute while their application for asylum is being considered. The global pandemic and an increased influx of small boat arrivals has presented us with significant challenges when it comes to the provision of asylum accommodation. We have therefore had to source hotel accommodation across the United Kingdom.</p><p> </p><p>Costs are subject to change depending on numbers being accommodated within the asylum system. The Home Office is currently spending around £7m per day on hotel accommodation. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/06/2023 answer text <p>The Home Office publishes data on people awaiting an initial decision on their asylum application in the ‘<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/immigration-statistics-quarterly-release" target="_blank">Immigration system statistics quarterly release</a>’. Data on the number of people awaiting an initial decision on their asylum applications is published in Asy_D03 of the ‘<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/asylum-and-resettlement-datasets" target="_blank">Asylum and resettlement datasets</a>’. Information on how to use the dataset can be found in the ‘Notes’ page of the workbook. The latest data relates to the 31<sup>st</sup> March 2023.</p><p>Figures for asylum applications awaiting a decision as at 30 April and 28 May 2023 can be found in table IMB_02 of the ‘<a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1160634/statistics-relating-to-the-illegal-migration-bill-data-tables-to-may-2023.ods" target="_blank">Statistics Relating to the Illegal Migration Bill</a>’ release. The latest data relates to 28 May 2023.
