answer text <p>The detail of the UK’s association to the EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation &amp; restriction of Chemicals programme after the UK leaves the EU is part of ongoing negotiations. The UK and the EU have a mutual interest in maintaining our integrated chemical supply chains as the chemicals industry is an economically significant sector in both regions, and it underpins key downstream sectors including automotive, aerospace, construction and pharmaceuticals. In the White Paper on our future relationship with the European Union published in July, the UK has proposed that chemicals are part of a UK-EU free trade area on goods, with continued UK participation in the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) underpinning this arrangement. This proposal is part of ongoing negotiation.</p> more like this

As the Prime Minister has stated, what we want to do is to ensure that we promote the greatest possible trade with the whole world. answer text <p>Government has a long-standing programme of support to maintain the competitiveness of the UK automotive sector. This includes the Automotive Sector Deal. This is a joint strategic vision for how government and industry will work together to respond to the Grand Challenges of the Industrial Strategy, such as Clean Growth and the Future of Mobility.</p><p> </p><p>I am delighted that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is considering the UK as a place for large-scale investment into the automotive sector. The Department has maintained close engagement with INEOS throughout their process and has met with the company and members of the South Tees Development Corporation on several occasions. The Department for International Trade has dedicated teams who work across the world to promote the UK as a destination for investment into manufacturing and to boost trade from UK manufacturing companies abroad. It launched its Foreign Direct Investment strategy this year to deliver a more targeted approach to promotion and investor support across all sectors, including manufacturing.</p>

answer text <p>Following the publication in 2017 of the National Shipbuilding Strategy Government has established the Maritime Enterprise Working Group (MEWG) to coordinate discussions with industry around growth opportunities. The MEWG has commissioned a market evaluation and competitiveness study of UK Shipbuilding which will report in the New Year. This study will identify a prospective international commercial and naval product mix for UK shipbuilding; analyse market characteristics, prospective clients and competitor strengths and weaknesses. The study will assess the competitiveness and performance levels of UK shipbuilders and will identify actions needed to address any gaps. The Department is supporting this study.</p><p> </p><p>The ability of UK industry to win contracts to build military vessels for EU member states after the UK leaves the EU will remain a decision for EU member states. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is working closely with industry and other Government Departments to understand the implications and opportunities presented by the UK's departure from the European Union.</p><p> </p>
