If a person has a permanent medical condition preventing them undertaking their role, they would be eligible for ill health retirement.<br><br>The role of firefighters has changed dramatically over recent years. Firefighters engage in more specialist roles and work more closely with the community to prevent fires and reduce other risks. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/12/2014 answer text <p>Dr Tony Williams, Medical Director of Working Fit, was commissioned to review the Normal Pension Age for firefighters. Dr Williams found that the decline in fitness for women follows a similar rate to men when activity levels and body mass index are similar. Dr Williams also established that firefighters who remain physically active and maintain a health lifestyle should still be operational at age 60.</p><p> </p><p><br>Fifty six percent of regular and retained female firefighters are members of the New Firefighters’ Pension Scheme 2006, which already has a Normal Pension Age of 60. These women will see no change to their Normal Pension Age as a result of the reforms. This is a mix of academic study and practical exercises carried out at a number of locations including BRNC Dartmouth, Phoenix CBRNDC School and sea-time on a warship, in my case HMS Bulwark during the Cougar 13 deployment. I have carried out this training over the last 3 years. Since 2010 we have provided a total of £18.26 million, including support for Portas Pilots and town teams, business improvement districts and for markets.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, in late 2013 we introduced a £1 billion business rate support package for 2014-15 including:</p><p> </p><ul><li>a 2% cap in the Retail Price Index increase in the small business rates multiplier;</li><li>a retail discount of £1,000 for around 300,000 shops, pubs and restaurants with rateable values below £50,000;</li><li>a 12 month extension of small business rate relief doubling, benefitting over half a million businesses; and</li><li>a 50 per cent discount for new occupants of long-term vacant shops.</li></ul><p> </p><p>All of these measures apply to England.
