answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/02/2019 answer text <p>The Ultra-Low Emission Taxi Infrastructure Competition, awarded a share of over £6m to 17 local authorities to support the installation of chargepoint infrastructure dedicated to ultra-low emission taxis and private hire vehicles. Sheffield City Council was awarded £487,000 to install 20 chargepoints, in 10 charging units, to be located at seven key locations across Sheffield city area. We expect this to support the introduction of approximately 45 ultra-low emission Hackney Carriages and around 200 ultra-low emission private hire vehicles to the city. The competition was UK wide, and we have been able to fund all projects submitted to the competition in full. However, there are no plans at present to introduce a statutory national bus travel concession for all young people across England. Local authorities have the discretion to offer travel concessions to young people, funded from local resources. In addition, many operators offer discounted tickets on commercial basis.</p><p> </p><p>The Conservative Manifesto contained a commitment to introduce discounted travel on buses for apprentices. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/03/2018 answer text <p>The Government recognises the importance of public transport for both the sustainability and independence of rural communities. Since January 2014, £40m Bus Service Operator Grant (BSOG) funding per year is paid directly to local authorities, rather than bus operators, in relation to the services that councils fund. This funding is ring-fenced to ensure that it is used to support bus services, but within that it will be for each local authority to decide how to use it.</p><p> </p><p>We are also encouraging local authorities to innovate such as through our Total Transport pilot projects which have explored ways to join up the commissioning of publicly funded transport services so that available funding goes further. The deregulated bus market works well across much of the country and any operational decisions are a matter for individual operators, as is the ownership model they wish to consider.</p><p> </p><p>However, the Bus Services Act 2017 presents local authorities with new powers to bring about change, and unlock the potential for the bus industry to achieve more for passengers.
