answer text <p>Next year the National Health Service will receive around an additional £500 million to address waiting times for mental health services, following the reduction in referrals due to COVID-19, and give more people the mental health support they need. answer text <p>We continue to expand access to talking and psychological therapies through the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme. Data from 2019/20 shows that there were 1.69 million referrals to IAPT in England and 1.17 million people started a course of treatment within this year. <br> <br> In addition, we continue to meet our waiting time targets for IAPT. Latest figures for August 2020 indicate that 89.1% of people completing treatment waited less than 6 weeks against a target of 75% and 97.8% waited less than 18 weeks, against a target of 87.5%.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We remain committed to growing the mental health workforce to achieve the ambitions set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.</p><p>NHS Digital publishes Hospital and Community Health Services (HCHS) workforce statistics. These include staff working in hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), but not staff working in primary care, local authorities or other providers.</p><p>There is no data available which identifies staff who provide one-to-one support. answer text <p>The latest available data on the condition of the National Health Service mental health estate was published in October 2019. According to this data, the cost to eradicate backlog maintenance across mental health and learning disability trusts was £342 million. The publication of data for 2019-20 was delayed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and is due to be published in January 2021.</p><p>In October 2020, the Government announced more than £400 million to eradicate dormitory accommodation from mental health facilities, as part of the Government’s record investment in NHS infrastructure. This investment will improve the safety, privacy and dignity of patients suffering with mental illness.</p><p>The Government has also recently announced that 40 hospitals are to be built by 2030 and this includes new mental health hospitals in Northgate and in Poole. A competition will be announced in due course for eight further hospital schemes.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The most appropriate form of treatment is a matter for clinicians and patients, based on each patient’s individual clinical circumstances.</p><p> </p><p>Over 1 million people with mental health conditions are now accessing psychological and talking therapies through Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services each year. Under the NHS Long Term Plan, our ambition is that an additional 380,000 people per year will being able to access National Institute for Health and Care Excellence-approved IAPT therapies by 2023/24.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England and NHS Improvement has established a group, chaired by the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer and the Primary Care Medical Director, to oversee implementation of the recommendations for the NHS from Public Health England’s prescribed medicines review, on dependence forming prescription medicines. Further consideration is being given on wider engagement with patient groups, charities and people with lived experience, alongside clinical experts, professional bodies and Royal Colleges, including the potential for a separate advisory stakeholder group to support development and implementation.</p><p> </p>
