answer text
No assessment has been made.

Where redundancies do occur, the Department for Work and Pensions’ Rapid Response Service (RRS) works to address the effects of job losses on individuals and on the local community. The RRS work with employers to deliver flexible, timely, and appropriate support for them and their employees and help individuals secure a job or move into self-employment quickly and ideally without the need to claim welfare benefits.

The RRS is available to private and public sector employers. Third sector employers are also eligible where the job losses affect paid workers. The RRS support can start when people are under threat of redundancy or during the period of notice.

Where individuals have not found alternative work before they lose their job, RRS support can continue for a further 13 weeks whether they make a claim for benefits or not. This is in addition to the ongoing support provided by DWP for claimants moving them forward in their journey closer to/back into employment.

DWP has provided additional support to help people into work since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, through our Plan for Jobs, including recruiting an additional 13,500 Work Coaches to provide support to unemployed people to find a job, and launching new schemes like Kickstart, Restart and Sector Work Academies Programmes.

answer text
We do not centrally collate information regarding jobs filled or advertised in the defence sector.

To encourage young people to apply for them, Kickstart jobs are categorised by the nature of the role rather than the sector of the employer. This means for example, that a defence-sector administrative job would be categorised as ‘administrative’ not ‘defence’. answer text
As of 8th December, the Department for Work and Pensions’ Kickstart Scheme has seen over 112,000 jobs started by young people. These jobs are assigned to a sector based on the type of work required by that particular role. We do not centrally collate data on the sector of each employer participating in the Scheme. A digital Kickstart job, for example, could be for an employer in the hospitality industry. For recent statistics on the number of Kickstart jobs started and made available by sector, I refer the honourable member to PQ 71418.

As a part of the evaluation of the Kickstart scheme, the Department for Work and Pensions will examine engagement with the scheme across different sectors.

To support the hospitality industry during the pandemic, the Government published it’s hospitality strategy in July (Hospitality strategy: reopening, recovery, resilience) and has put in place a number of measures including supporting the development of hospitality-led regeneration hubs through our levelling-up agenda, creating opportunities for the sector and increased job opportunities.

answer text
Throughout the pandemic, Jobcentres remained open for claimants who required face-to-face support. From April, Jobcentres in England, Scotland, and Wales returned to their pre-lockdown opening hours and restarted face-to-face appointments, in accordance with government guidelines.

In line with current public health guidance, and with safety measures in place, Jobcentre Work Coaches are continuing to book face-to-face appointments for those claimants who are required to attend mandatory appointments as part of their conditions for receiving Universal Credit.

The frequency of interventions Work Coaches undertake with claimants is determined by the individual circumstances of the claimant, the duration of their claim, and the level of support required at that particular time. There is no target of face-to-face appointments a full-time Work Coach is expected to deliver in one day. Appointments are determined by the circumstances of each claimant and the type of meeting being conducted. Maintaining an effective Work Coach diary is a joint responsibility between a team leader and the Work Coach, and is managed collaboratively through regular discussion and agreement.

Our Jobcentre teams are committed to ensuring all claimants receive the best possible support to meet their individual circumstance. Jobcentre team leaders are responsible for assuring the quality services provided to individual claimants through a combination of observation of Work Coach interviews, feedback, coaching and appraisal.
