answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/10/2018 answer text <p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) clinical guidance on managing and treating eating disorders, and the Eating Disorder Commissioning Guide, are both clear that people should not be rejected for treatment solely on the grounds of weight or Body Mass Index (BMI).</p><p> </p><p>The NICE clinical guideline for the recognition and treatment of an eating disorder (2017) states “Do not use single measures such as BMI or duration of illness to determine whether to offer treatment for an eating disorder (ref 1.2.8)”. We expect commissioners and providers to adhere to this guidance.</p><p> </p><p>The Eating Disorder Commissioning Guide recognises that “There are reported problems associated with health professionals delaying the provision of appropriate treatment due to their treatment decisions being based primarily on the young person’s weight and BMI. It is for CCGs, supported by Commissioning Support Units, to decide which organisations they commission community mental health services from and to decide the detailed local content of their contracts with those providers (including service specifications and local quality standards).</p><p> </p><p>CCGs are responsible for monitoring the performance of each provider, in terms of safety, quality, outcomes and value for money. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 31/10/2018 answer text <p>The Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme offers a range of National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended therapies in England for common mental health conditions including depression and anxiety.</p><p> </p><p>For people with a severe mental illness, such as psychosis, bipolar disorder and personality disorder, NHS England has committed to increasing access to psychological therapies, as recommended by the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health.</p><p> </p><p>The 2016 access standard for early intervention state that at least 50% of people experiencing their first episode of psychosis should start a package of care recommended by NICE within two weeks of referral rising to 60% by 2020/21.
