answer text <p>This proposed adult registration clause in the Nationality and Borders Bill would allow the Home Secretary discretion to grant citizenship in circumstances where a person could have become British but for historical legislative unfairness, an act or omission by a public authority, or exceptional circumstances of the particular individual.</p><p>This is one of a number of measures which need to be approved by Parliament, and so we cannot be specific at this time how the discretion will be used.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Visas are an important part of securing the UK’s border and are an effective tool for the UK in reducing illegal immigration, tackling organised crime and protecting national security. Decisions on changes are always taken in the round, and reflect a range of factors. These will vary globally, but often include security, compliance, returns, and prosperity.</p><p>There are no current plans to change the visa requirements for visa nationals visiting the UK, however the visa system continues to be kept under regular review.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Home Office considers individual cases within the context of the applicant’s circumstances and the statutory requirements for citizenship.</p><p>Within the British Nationality Act 1981 there is discretion to register a child under the age of 18. In each case, the Home Office will consider if there are circumstances which would mean it is appropriate to register a child, and if so the child would be granted citizenship.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Women have been able to pass on British nationality in the same way as men since 1983. The British Nationality Act 1981 now also provides for the registration of those who would have become British citizens had women been able to pass on their citizenship in the same way as men before 1983.</p><p>As part of the package of proposals announced earlier this week, I can confirm the Government intends to bring forward legislation to address the, anomalies in historical nationality law which deny British citizenship to people from British Overseas Territories for unfair and outdated reasons, will be fixed.</p> more like this
