answer text <p>The latest information the Department holds relating to the number and associated costs of staff employed in human resources activities are for the six month period ending 30th September 2014 (1st April 2014 to 30th September <br>2014). <br><br>The Department directly employs 210 staff (197.93 Full Time Equivalent) on Civil Service Human Resources activities. <br>a) 38 staff are paid above £40,000;<br>b) 60 are paid above £50,000;<br>c) 5 are paid above £75,000; and<br>d) Fewer than 5 are paid above £100,000.<br><br>A further 157.25 (FTE) civil servants in other Departments provided Shared and Expert Services (including Complex Casework, Employee Policies, Learning, Organisation Development &amp; Design, and recruitment activities) (from 1st <br>October 2014 74.48 (FTE) moved to Steria Shared Services Connected Ltd).<br><br>Together these staff provide HR services for a Home Office population of 32,004 (FTE). The total cost of these HR services for the six month period was £9.98 million. It is not possible to aggregate the previous two quarters to make a whole year figure, as there have been changes to what is being counted between the quarterly and half yearly figures.<br><br>It has not been possible to provide information on the following:<br>a) The cost of recruitment consultancy is included in the above overall consultancy cost figures associated with the HR function and the recruitment element cannot be disaggregated;<br>b) Department's total spend on human resources for the last financial year. Over the last 18 months the Home Office has undergone significant transformation: UKBA and HMPO staff moved into core Home Office; Immigration <br>Enforcement and United Kingdom Visas and Immigration were formed; and back office enabling services have been streamlined. The last annual survey related to the period 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013 and was succeeded by 3 quarterly <br>surveys. New biannual surveys now take place in line with midyear and end of year Departmental reporting responsibilities.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>The Home Office does not hold data centrally on the number of complaints received relating to specific businesses. <br><br>The Home Office provides police forces with their core Government funding. The allocation of budgets within police force areas is a matter for individual Police and Crime Commissioners, working with their chief officers and taking <br>into account local priorities.<br><br><br>The Government takes all types of fraud extremely seriously. We are working closely with law enforcement and industry to pursue and disrupt criminal activities, and ensure that the public has the knowledge to protect themselves. <br><br>The City of London Police is the national lead force for fraud, and runs Action Fraud, the national reporting point for fraud and financially-motivated cyber crime. All reports made to Action Fraud are analysed to look for links between <br>separate victims of the same scams. Where these are found, intelligence packages are sent to the police force best placed to consider enforcement action. In 2013/14, there were 40,000 intelligence reports disseminated to <br>police forces in this way. We expect this number to increase this year and are working with City of London Police, and their partners, to deliver further improvements. Extra Home Office funding has also been provided over the last <br>two years to assist the development of bespoke fraud units in every Regional Organised Crime Unit, which are now in place. <br><br>From 1 October 2014 all residential and letting agents must belong to an approved redress scheme which will provide a clearer route for both tenants and landlords to pursue complaints and help to drive up standards in the private <br>rented sector. We have also brought an amendment to the Consumer Rights Bill which will require all lettings agents to publish full details of the fees they charge. <br><br>Under the Tenancy Deposit Protection legislation introduced by the Housing Act 2004, all landlords and agents are also required to protect deposits for all assured shorthold tenancies created since 6 April 2007, in one of the <br>government-approved schemes, within 30 calendar days from the day the deposit is received.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>The National Crime Agency (NCA) has a flexible, UK-wide operational capability, prioritising the deployment of its resources against the highest risks and undertaking targeted operations to cut serious and organised crime affecting <br>our communities. There is nothing to preclude the employment of people living in Northern Ireland. We are working closely with law enforcement agencies and industry to pursue and disrupt criminal activities, ensure that members of the public have the knowledge to protect themselves, and prevent criminals from using telephones to exploit vulnerable victims. <br><br>The City of London Police is the national lead force for fraud, and runs Action Fraud, the national reporting point for fraud and financially-motivated cyber crime. All reports made to Action Fraud are analysed for links between separate victims of the same scams. Where these are found, intelligence packages are sent to the police force best placed to consider enforcement action. In 2013/14, there were 40,000 intelligence reports disseminated to police forces in this way. We expect this number to increase this year and are working with the City of London Police, and their partners, to deliver further improvements. <br><br>We are also working closely with Financial Fraud Action UK, which has issued advice to consumers on how to protect themselves from phone scammers. This includes recognising when they might be targeted by criminals, and knowing not to give out sensitive details, such as four-digit PIN numbers, which a bank will never ask for.<br><br>Finally, Ofcom has worked closely with the Metropolitan Police Service, Action Fraud and landline providers to prevent criminals exploiting phone lines to trick and defraud members of the public. The majority of landline providers have reduced the time a call remains open after one party hangs up down to two seconds. This makes it much more difficult for criminals to exploit phone lines in this way.</p>
