answer text <p>The Government is committed to the licence fee for the rest of the current Charter. However, the BBC's funding model faces major challenges due to changes in the way people consume media. It is therefore necessary to look at ways to ensure the BBC’s funding model is sustainable in the long-term.</p><p>The Government wants to see the BBC continue to succeed, which is why we need to consider the most fair and appropriate funding mechanism to be introduced at the end of the current Charter period.</p><p>The Department is considering all possible future funding options to ensure the BBC’s long-term sustainability in a rapidly changing, digital world.</p> more like this

answer text <p>In October 2022, Vodafone and Three announced that they were in talks to merge their UK businesses.</p><p>It is the statutory responsibility of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to review mergers under the Enterprise Act 2002 with input from relevant sector regulators, in this case, it would be Ofcom. The Government has no role in the merger review or decision.</p><p>On 10 January 2023, I met Ofcom Chairman Lord Grade and one of the topics discussed was Ofcom’s view on the number of mobile operators in the market.</p> more like this
