answer text
The law provides for the checking of the integrity of completed postal ballots prior to them being included in the count. Returning Officers are required to check 100% of postal vote identifiers (signatures and dates of birth) returned with completed postal votes against those supplied by the elector when they applied for a postal vote. Any that do not match will not be counted in order to prevent any attempt at electoral fraud. The law requires that postal ballot papers are mixed with ballot papers from a ballot box before they can be counted as a necessary step in order to help protect the secrecy of the ballot.
more like this

answer text
The last study of the completeness and accuracy of the electoral register was published by the Electoral Commission in July 2014, and found that Parliamentary registers were 85.9% complete and 86.4% accurate. This was based on the last registers published under the old household system of registration in February/March 2014. The next study of this kind will be published by the Commission this summer and will be based on the registers published in December 2015. The completeness and accuracy studies provide a nationally representative picture, and do not allow for analysis at a local authority level, such as the London Borough of Redbridge.
more like this

answer text
As required by legislation, all applications to register to vote are assessed by Local Authority Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). There are around 360 EROs across the UK. EROs manage and maintain separate electoral registers for their areas on a variety of different software platforms. A national registration look-up tool would require access to all of these locally held and owned electoral registers, and, if it required the creation of a central national database, could require legislative changes and raise significant data protection concerns.

more like this
