Updated advice has been published on the PHE Zika virus page and the NaTHNaC website:</p><p> </p><p><a href="http://travelhealthpro.org.uk/" target="_blank">http://travelhealthpro.org.uk/</a></p><p> </p><p>PHE is providing tailored advice for relevant health professionals, including obstetricians and general practitioners (GPs). PHE is liaising with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Association of British Travel Agents who have published updates on their respective websites. PHE will provide guidance and information specifically targeted at primary care and this will be available shortly. PHE has also produced regular briefing notes for local health protection teams who have been asked to share this with local NHS.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>PHE has raised awareness about Zika virus among public health and clinical colleagues within PHE by circulating a briefing note to all staff. This will support clinicians to identify, investigate and manage cases that may present in clinical practice. The briefing note included information about the outbreak in the Americas and the unusual increase in microcephaly cases in Brazil. This has included training officials on applying the Test, disseminating relevant evidence, learning materials and best practice.</p><p> </p><p>The Family Test was announced by the Prime Minister in August 2014 and introduced in October 2014 through the publication of guidance for officials - <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/368894/family-test-guidance.pdf" target="_blank">Family Test Guidance</a>.</p><p> </p><p>The Department of Health is working to raise awareness of the Family Test amongst its policy staff, so that the impact of policy on the family is considered as a matter of course. We have highlighted the Family Test through the Policy Kit, an online resource for Departmental policy officials. Its respiratory interstitial lung disease (adult) specification, which includes IPF, sets out what it expects to be in place in order for providers to offer evidence based, safe and effective services. It is available on the NHS England website at:</p><p> </p><p><a href="http://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/a14-respiratory-inters-lung.pdf" target="_blank">http://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/a14-respiratory-inters-lung.pdf</a></p><p> </p><p>This specification is currently being updated to ensure it includes the most up to date guidance on IPF including the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) quality standards published in January 2015.</p><p> </p><p>The quality dashboards for specialised respiratory services commissioned by NHS England include metrics specific to IPF so it will be possible to ensure that the standard of care is uniform across centres in England. These dashboards are a key tool in monitoring the quality of services, enabling comparison between service providers and supporting improvements over time in the outcomes of services commissioned by NHS England.</p><p> </p><p>Not all aspects of care for IPF are covered by direct commissioning. For example, rehabilitation, oxygen services and acute admissions for exacerbations will be covered by local commissioning arrangements. Work continues at a local level to develop appropriate care pathways for IPF patients to ensure joined up commissioning of the specialist and non-specialist components of IPF management.</p><p> </p><p>NICE quality standards set out markers of high quality care in a particular disease or service area, and are designed to drive up standards of care and to reduce inequalities and variation.</p><p> </p><p>In June 2013, NICE published its clinical guideline on IPF, offering evidence based advice to support clinicians in diagnosing and managing patients with the condition.</p><p> </p><p>Treatment is covered by the NICE guideline on IPF and the subsequent supplement on perfenidone. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/02/2016 answer text <p>In February 2015, Public Health England, in partnership with the Department, ran a local pilot campaign to raise public awareness of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) symptoms in Nottingham City and Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group. The aim of the campaign was to support earlier diagnosis and thereby enable treatment to begin earlier to improve the quality of life for people with the condition. The results of the campaign are currently being evaluated.</p><p><strong><br> </strong>To help clinicians to identify the symptoms of RA and make prompt referral to specialists the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published <em>Rheumatoid arthritis: The management of rheumatoid arthritis in adults </em>in 2009. The guideline emphasises the need for early diagnosis, with urgent referral to a specialist rheumatologist on suspicion of RA. The guidance is available at:</p><p> </p><p><a href="https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg79" target="_blank">https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg79</a></p><p> </p><p>In addition, NICE has also published a Quality Standard on RA in June 2013. Quality standards are concise sets of prioritised statements designed to drive measurable quality improvements within a particular area of health or care. The standard makes seven statements which are indicators of good care, including one on that sets out that people with suspected RA are referred to a rheumatology service within three working days of presentation. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/02/2016 answer text <p>Published data estimates that around 4,700 people with bleeding disorders (such as haemophilia) and around 28,000 other people were exposed to hepatitis C in the United Kingdom. This information is from the UK Haemophilia Doctors’ Organisation 2011 annual report. Around 1,200 people with bleeding disorders and 100 other individuals were infected with HIV through treatment with National Health Service-supplied blood products or blood transfusions in the UK. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/02/2016 answer text <p>Services for pancreatic cancer have been significantly strengthened within the National Health Service in recent years. This includes clearer diagnostic pathways; decision making by specialist multi-disciplinary teams; and centralisation of pancreas surgery within specialist teams.</p><p> </p><p>However, we know more needs to be done. The Independent Cancer Taskforce’s report, <em>Achieving World-Class Outcomes a Cancer Strategy for England 2015 – 2020</em>, notes that whilst survival to date has improved significantly for some cancers, it has remained stubbornly low for other cancers, including pancreatic cancer.</p><p> </p><p>The strategy makes recommendations for speeding up diagnosis of cancers with non-specific but concerning symptoms through the use of a multidisciplinary diagnostic centre. In terms of delivery, NHS England has appointed Cally Palmer as National Cancer Director. She will lead on implementation; as well as new cancer vanguards to redesign care and patient experience. She has set up a new Cancer Transformation Board to implement the strategy, and this met for the first time on Monday 25 January. There will also be a Cancer Advisory group, chaired by Sir Harpal Kumar, to oversee and scrutinise the work of the Transformation Board.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In addition, NHS England has a published a service specification for pancreatic cancer which clearly defines what it expects to be in place for providers to offer evidence-based, safe and effective pancreatic cancer services. This service specification has been developed by specialised clinicians, commissioners, expert patients and public health representatives to describe core and developmental service standards.</p><p> </p><p>The full service specification can be found at:</p><p> </p><p><a href="http://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/a02-cncr-panc.pdf" target="_blank">http://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/a02-cncr-panc.pdf</a></p><p> </p><p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published updated guideline, <em>Suspected cancer: recognition and referral</em>, in June 2015, to ensure that it reflects latest evidence and can continue to support general practitioner’s (GPs) to identify patients, including children &amp; young people and urgently refer them as appropriate.
