answer text
From 1 May 2021 to 30 April 2022, there were 2,600 referrals in the United Kingdom to a National Health Service commissioned provider of specialised surgical interventions for the alleviation of gender dysphoria. NHS England's service specification stipulates that a referral for surgery can only be made by an NHS-commissioned gender dysphoria clinic, following a formal diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

The specification also requires the patient's lead clinician in the specialist gender dysphoria clinic to ensure that patients are aware of the longer-term consequences of the interventions offered to them. The operating surgeon is required to obtain consent for the proposed intervention at a specific pre-operative appointment, to allow an informed process and for the patient to consider any relevant options and alternatives. It is the surgeon’s responsibility to determine that an individual is sufficiently healthy, physically and psychologically, to undergo surgery.
more like this

The standard period for bringing a personal injury claim is three years from the date on which the cause of action accrued or three years from the injured person’s date of knowledge, if later. Under section 33 of the Act, the court has discretion to extend this period if it considers it would be equitable to do so, having regard to the various factors listed in this section. NHS Resolution will review claims received in the light of the factors listed in section 33 of the Act.

more like this

answer text
No specific estimate has been made as a phone-only booking system has not been implemented nationally. Patients can contact their general practitioner (GP) practice, including by telephone, in person and using a secure online form. NHS England and NHS Improvement advise that these methods are available to patients in GP practices on the Isle of Wight.

The GP Contract states that a practice must not enter into, renew or extend a contract or other arrangement for telephone services unless it is satisfied that patients will not be charged more for phoning the practice than phoning a geographical landline number. Where it is not possible for a practice to take reasonable steps to do so, the practice must consider introducing a system where if a caller asks for their call to be returned, this will be done at the practice’s own expense.
more like this

FIT has increased accessibility as it requires one stool sample, replacing multiple samples used by its predecessor. Information for patients on bowel cancer screening and how to use the screening kit is available in different languages and formats, including easy read and animations, to increase awareness and address potential variations in patient outcomes.

more like this

answer text
The guidance from the British Society of Gastroenterology recommends that faecal immunochemical testing (FIT) can be implemented safely in primary care. New contractual requirements for Primary Care Networks to support early cancer diagnosis were published in March 2022. The updated requirements have been designed to support the delivery of specific commitments aligned to National Health Service planning guidance and improving referral practice, including the use of FIT.

In addition, the use of FIT to reduce demand on endoscopy capacity has been incentivised in the GP Contract for 2022/23. From 1 April 2022, practices are financially incentivised for the proportion of lower gastrointestinal faster diagnosis standard referrals accompanied by a FIT result, to ensure that 80% of referrals on this pathway are accompanied by a FIT result.
more like this
