answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/11/2020 answer text <p>The Government is aware of the harms caused by identity crime and that criminals use false identities to commit and enable a range of offences, from people trafficking, benefit fraud, credit card fraud to fraudulently obtaining government-issued documents.</p><p>Contact with victims is usual procedure where police are working on an open investigation. However, the majority of cases of identity theft are brought to the attention of the police by the victim themselves.</p><p>In the case of the identity theft being a result of a personal data breach all organisations have a duty under GDPR to report certain personal data breaches to the relevant supervisory authority. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/11/2020 answer text <p>This Government recognises the discrimination and intolerance faced by Muslim communities and the UK has a robust legislative framework in place to respond to hate crime.</p><p>The Government has taken steps to combat anti-Muslim Hatred including supporting Tell MAMA (Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks) with just over £2.8m between 2016 and 2020 to monitor and combat anti-Muslim hatred.</p><p>In addition, the Places of Worship protective security funding scheme, which provides security measures for mosques and other places of worship, has been allocated £3.2m for 2020-21 - double what was awarded last year.</p><p>This Government is committed to continuing the promotion of shared values among people of all backgrounds through sustainable social integration and meaningful civic participation whilst tackling and preventing religiously and racially discriminatory behaviour and those acting against others because of their faith or race. Along with partners in law enforcement, the public sector and the private and third sectors, we have been implementing measures to ensure the public has the protection and advice needed to shield themselves from these crimes.</p><p>This has included working alongside the National Cyber Security Centre to establish a new Suspicious Email Reporting Service. This service allows the public to report potential scams safely and effectively. To date, this has already led to over 13,000 scams being thwarted and taken down. Members of the public can forward suspicious emails to this address: <a href="mailto:report@phishing.gov.uk" target="_blank">report@phishing.gov.uk</a></p><p>However, law enforcement cannot do this alone. In addtion, the public should be well-informed on the steps they can take to guard against becoming the victim of crime. That is why we have launched a gov.uk page that contains easy-to-follow steps for people to spot potential frauds and the steps they can take to avoid them. It also signposts advice and support to those who may unfortunately have fallen victim. Of these, 3,471 (34%) have been replied to in over 20 days.</p><p>Over the last six months the Department has replied to 21,204 letters from hon. Members. Of these 7,179 (34%) have been replied to in over 20 days.</p><p>Performance has been impacted by a very significant increase in the volume of correspondence received, alongside the need for Ministers and officials to instigate a remote process for drafting and signing correspondence during the period of COVID-19 restrictions. The payment of a ransom to criminals is likely to encourage further criminal activity and does not guarantee a successful outcome.</p><p>The legal decision of whether or not to pay the ransom is ultimately a matter for the individuals or organisations concerned. We encourage victims of ransom demands to contact the authorities for support.
