answer text
The UK Government takes the issue of substandard and falsified medicines seriously and is committed to tackling malaria. Through DFID and the Department of Health and Social Care, we fund the WHO Global Surveillance and Monitoring System, which helps countries to identify and report substandard and falsified products, including anti-malaria medication in Africa.

DFID also funds the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, which is committed to responsible and sustainable procurement and investigates any reported cases of substandard and falsified medicines through its Office of the Inspector General. We support countries to strengthen their health systems and work closely with partners to raise awareness on good distribution practices to minimise the risk of these medicines entering the supply chain. Our support to Product Development Partnerships for research and development for new products also includes anti-counterfeiting measures to reduce the risk of substandard and falsified medicines entering the supply chain, for example using labels or packaging that are difficult to copy.

This includes work that we cannot breakdown geographically such as our funding to the Global Environment Facility and our work on curbing illicit financial flows. answer text
The ongoing Ebola outbreak in the DRC is one of DFID’s key emergency priorities. Although a challenging security context is significantly hampering response activities, an experimental vaccine has been deployed throughout the response to good effect, and has likely saved thousands of lives.

The UK Government is committed to promoting respect for International Humanitarian Law. We strongly condemn repeated attacks and threats of violence directed towards health facilities and health workers who are working towards ending this outbreak. Health workers are not a target. The response must balance protecting health workers with not using security in a way that further escalates mistrust or violence. This is something that the UK has been advocating since the beginning of the outbreak. We are pleased to see theincreasing involvement of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security, as well as a number of civil society organisations who have important experience of working in fragile and conflict affected humanitarian contexts.

answer text
Tackling climate change is a priority for the UK Government and for the Department for International Development (DFID), and we are already providing significant assistance to developing countries to help them deal with climate change. It is clear however that the world is not on track to avoid dangerous climate change and environmental damage. The Secretary of State wants to see what more we can do with the UK’s aid budget and how we can encourage others to take more action. The UN Climate Action Summit in September is a critical moment to increase global ambition and I am pleased that the UK playing a leading role in shaping the agenda on how to build resilience to cope with climate change already locked in.
more like this

We are tackling this misinformation through our strong support of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance.
