answer text
We have raised our concerns about Mr Tofla Ndele's case at the highest levels of government in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and will continue to do so. I raised the case with the DRC Foreign Minister on 12 April. Consular officials in Kinshasa have visited Mr Ndele regularly since his detention in September 2017, most recently on 19 April 2018. Following our initial lobbying, Mr Ndele was able, in March 2018, to have a visit from a family member for the first time since his arrest.
more like this

answer text
The UK regularly raises with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) the need to tackle the root causes of conflict and insecurity that are driving the humanitarian crisis in the country. The holding of elections in December 2018 and a peaceful and democratic transfer of power will be critical to longer-term peace and stability in the DRC.

I visited the DRC in April, where I saw first-hand the impact of the conflict and insecurity upon the Congolese population. I announced a further contribution of £22 million to the humanitarian appeal for the DRC, bringing UK aid's support to £227 million over 5 years (2017-2022).
more like this

answer text
The promotion of human rights in Cameroon remains an objective of the British Government. Human rights violations and abuses lead to unstable, less prosperous and undemocratic societies.

The tensions in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon are troubling. The Government wants to see an end to violence, release of prisoners and a meaningful process to address the core issues. We welcome the announcement by President Biya in his New Year speech, calling for moves to rebuild trust, resume dialogue and pursue decentralization. During my visit in February, I met senior Cameroon Government Ministers and reinforced the need for restraint, for the avoidance of excess force and for respect for human rights.
more like this

answer text
The British Government has welcomed the important work that the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has done to bring the parties to the conflict together in pursuit of peace. We continue to work closely with IGAD and its member states to give the High Level Revitalisation Forum (HLRF) the best chance of success. The UK strongly urges the parties themselves to engage meaningfully with the HLRF, and to put the wellbeing of the South Sudanese people above their own political interests.

While we welcome IGAD's efforts, the UK is deeply concerned that the region has failed to take action against those who have attempted to spoil the process. We urge IGAD to take swift and robust action, to leave spoilers in no doubt about the region's commitment to peace in South Sudan. The UK also continues to explore all possible avenues for action against those who undermine peace, to incentivise their positive engagement with the HLRF.
more like this
