answer text <p>The Government is committed to alleviating levels of pensioner poverty.</p><p> </p><p>In the latest statistics there were 200,000 fewer pensioners in absolute poverty, after housing costs, compared to 2009/10.</p><p> </p><p>The State Pension is the foundation of support for older people, providing the basis on which people can build additional private savings for their retirement. Under this Government, the full yearly amount of the basic State Pension is now over £2,050 higher than in 2010.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, Pension Credit provides invaluable financial support for the most vulnerable pensioners and is a passport to a range of other benefits.</p> more like this
