answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/02/2020 answer text <p>The requirement to report fish caught to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) only applies to licenced commercial fishing vessel owners.</p><p> </p><p>Recreational sea anglers can fish for most finfish and shellfish species unrestricted and without the need to report catches to the MMO. The Animal and Plant Health Agency has been in touch from the start with the private veterinary group investigating the syndrome. While CRGV remains rare in the UK, we are now working with this vet group to commission research to improve our understanding. However, this information is supplemented by an additional requirement for a landing declaration which provides accurate weights of all fish caught. The development and build costs associated with the app as of 31 October were £1.8 million. The European Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF) can be accessed to fund projects to support the ‘regulator’ and the ‘regulated’ to improve compliance with the Common Fisheries Policy Control Regulations. The app is substantively (90%, £1.6 million) funded by the EMFF, matched with Government funds (10%, £0.2 million). answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/10/2019 answer text <p>Although fisheries control and enforcement is a devolved matter, we are working closely with the Devolved Administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to ensure a coordinated approach to fisheries control and enforcement across UK waters.</p><p> </p><p>In England, the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has assessed the risk of increased illegal fishing when the UK leaves the EU, including under the scenario of doing so without a deal, and strengthened our resources accordingly. This includes an increase to the number of frontline warranted officers, increased aerial surveillance and further vessels to enhance patrolling capacity at sea. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/10/2019 answer text <p>Since its introduction, the Government has worked with the catching sector, the wider industry and other Member States for the phased implementation of the landing obligation which came fully into force on 1 January 2019. There has been no formal assessment of the effectiveness of the landing obligation, however, there has been considerable progress in quantifying challenges such as choke risks and developing solutions to mitigate their impact. Solutions include enhancing and promoting the use of gear selectivity measures and maximising the use of quota management flexibilities to ensure quota is used efficiently and effectively to mitigate choke risks.</p><p> </p><p>Since January 2018, the MMO recorded a total of 132 infringements related to the landing obligation: of which 2 resulted in no further action, 24 resulted in a written rebrief, 104 resulted in a verbal rebrief and 2 are under investigation. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/10/2019 answer text <p>In 2014, 2015 and 2016 there were no exports of shark fin products. In 2017 there were 50 tonnes exported and in 2018 there were 35 tonnes exported.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has banned shark finning through the EU Council resolution 605/2013 that states that all sharks must be landed with their fins naturally attached to the carcass to reduce the risk of finning occurring. We continue to champion this provision being adopted globally.</p><p> </p><p>There are no legal constraints on exporting shark fins from the UK per se. However, we have domestic legislation (e.g. the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Tope Order) which places emphasis on conservation of threatened or endangered species, establishing a legal framework for the protection of such species as well as jurisdiction over fisheries.</p><p> </p><p>In addition to domestic legislation, there is regional protection through rules in the Common Fisheries Policy – either through prohibitions, catch limits and/or gear restrictions (e.g. deep sea net restrictions), and through Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs).</p><p> </p><p>We also have international protection through a number of agreements such as the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), the Convention of Migratory Species (CMS) and the Sharks MoU.</p><p> </p><p>The UK continues to press for stronger regional and international controls. The UK played a leading role in successfully championing the listing of an additional 18 shark species to appendix II of CITES at the Conference on Parties in August this year.
