answer text
With eight previously announced schemes, 48 hospitals will be built by 2030. Of the 48 hospitals, six are under construction and one is now completed. The schemes are currently grouped into high-level cohorts for delivery across the decade. The grouping of schemes is based on a current assessment of readiness to progress and the extent to which schemes can realise the benefits of the national programme. This assessment is subject to ongoing review and timescales for individual schemes may change as the programme progresses.

more like this

answer text
On 15 July 2021 the Government announced the selection process for the further eight new hospitals, the next phase of implementation of its Health Infrastructure Plan. The proposal for trusts to submit an Expression of Interest to be one of the next eight closed on 9 September 2021. This is the first of a two-stage selection process. It will be followed by a more detailed process for schemes that are selected for the longlist. These longlisted schemes will be announced shortly and the selected eight schemes announced later in the year.

We are committed to a balanced and robust selection process. The analysis will take some time, which means that while this process is ongoing, we are unable to comment on individual submissions.
more like this

answer text
The first schemes for the New Hospital Programme announced in 2020 are all hospitals which require additional investment. In determining which schemes to take forward we ensured that each new hospital could benefit from the most effective and efficient solution for its local requirements. This includes facilities providing specialist services for the needs of women and children where this is the most appropriate solution for local and regional healthcare requirements.

The selection process for the next 8 new hospitals received over 120 expressions of interest from a wide range of hospital trusts. The first stage of assessment involved consideration of the expressions of interest, alongside analysis of existing official datasets signed off by trust executives, and review and challenge from regional NHS leaders to provide expertise on local system priorities. A national panel will consider the full breadth of this evidence and analysis and provide advice to Ministers on a longlist for consideration.

answer text
The Department is currently assessing applications from National Health Service trusts in England to identify the next eight schemes to form part of the national new hospital building programme. Evidence considered during this process will also inform the ongoing investment in new hospitals, subject to future funding settlements. The recent Spending Review confirmed the initial £3.7 billion for the first four years for the delivery of 40 new hospitals, £1.7 billion for upgrades and committed an additional £5.9 billion capital for diagnostics, technology and elective recovery investments.
more like this

Before any funding can be provided, business cases are submitted, which must follow the appropriate governance routes to ensure that the works demonstrate maximum value for money for the taxpayer. In some cases, this is still in progress. All schemes which are part of the programme remain on track, which will result in 40 new hospitals built by 2030.
more like this
