answer text
The Ministry of Defence is dedicated to achieving a more diverse and representative workforce. Consequently, we have undertaken a wide range of activities to increase representation across British society, including those that have historically been under-represented. As part of this drive, we are working towards a target of 15% of recruits into the Armed Forces being female by 2020. The target is stretching and reflects the importance Defence places on having diverse Armed Forces with all the benefits this brings.
more like this

answer text
Adverse events are reported to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) using the Yellow card scheme and can be undertaken by a healthcare professional or the individual experiencing the adverse effect. The demographics required by the Yellow card scheme do not include the occupation of the subject, so military personnel are not uniquely identified.

The aims of the "713/MoDREC/15" study do not include assessing whether individuals or their healthcare professional reported side effects to the MHRA or to follow-up whether any person experiencing side effects required any form of treatment, including an assessment of whether suitable treatment was available. Data collated in the study is self-reported by individuals and any symptoms reported may not necessarily be related to the anti-malarial taken.
more like this

Our £160 million investment in the Power Improvement Project will provide increases in both power generation and reliability for the rest of the Type 45 destroyers' service life. It is planned that all six ships should have completed their upgrade during the mid-2020s.

Like all Royal Navy ships, the Type 45 destroyers rotate through planned operating cycles involving maintenance, training, deployment, leave and capability upgrades. This results in individual ships being at various levels of readiness. The Type 45 Destroyers continue to be deployed on operations and contribute to the defence of the UK and our international partners.
more like this

answer text
Gambling as an addiction has serious implications for Defence; as a security risk, financially, a mental health issue and as a wider welfare impact on Service personnel; families; veterans and their families. Gambling addiction is difficult to target and deal with effectively as most activity is carried out when Service personnel are off duty or at home. However, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) is working to raise financial awareness among Service personnel; all three Services provide links on their welfare sites to several financial advisory sites including MoneyForce, Joining Forces Credit Union, the Services Insurance and Investment Advisory Panel and GamCare, a national charity and leading provider of information, advice and free counselling for the prevention and treatment of problem gambling.

The MOD has not funded or conducted any research on problem gambling among Service personnel or veterans. We are aware that in 2017 the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) supported a gambling study by Swansea University, the preliminary findings of which suggested UK veterans may be at an increased risk of developing gambling problems than non-veterans. In 2018, FiMT awarded Swansea University £279,503 to undertake a survey to understand and explore the levels of gambling participation and attitudes to gambling in ex-Service personnel.

The requested information on the numbers of betting terminals and gaming machines on MOD property and the revenue generated and beneficiaries is not held centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
