Of these, 185,800 were aged under 19, 308,900 were aged 19-24 and 356,900 were aged over 25.</p><br /><p>Over the 2014/15 academic year there were 871,800 government funded apprentices. They are deciding the skills, knowledge and behaviour required in each apprenticeship and how those skills should be assessed at the end of the programme. We are committed to delivering employer-led apprenticeship reforms, which are improving the quality of apprenticeships to provide the skills that employers need.</p><p>The availability of apprenticeships at a range of levels is essential to meet the skill needs of employers and improve productivity.
