answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/05/2019 answer text <p>The number of employees in the department who were absent for stress-related reasons from 1 May 2018 to 30 April 2019 was 119, which represented 1.84% of the total workforce and 11.26% of the overall sickness absence.</p><p>The estimated cost of this sickness absence is £3,456,595 (based on a calculation of total working days lost multiplied by the daily rate of the department’s median salary).</p><p> </p><p>The department is committed to the health and wellbeing of all our employees, including helping them to manage stress in the workplace. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/05/2019 answer text <p>Following the extension to Article 50, 82 members of staff who had been working on preparations for the UK leaving the European Union at other government departments have now returned to the Department for Education.</p><p>The department constantly reviews its capabilities and allocation of resources in order to effectively deliver the government’s agenda. Internal transfers and loans are agreed locally, so the department does not hold this information centrally.</p><p>The Civil Service is focused on delivering the government’s most pressing priorities, so it is only sensible that we make use of the resources and expertise that are available. All MLA monies were paid through a section 14 grant which means that the department pays in arrears based on actuals. Friend, the Secretary of State for Education.</p><p> </p><p>The most recent data for 2017/18 is available at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/section-251-2017-to-2018" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/guidance/section-251-2017-to-2018</a>. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/05/2019 answer text <p>The further education sector plays a key role in ensuring quality vocational training opportunities and improving social mobility across England, including in North Cornwall. We have protected the base rate of funding for 16 to 19 year olds until the end of the current spending review period in 2020. Additional funding is provided through the 16 to 19 funding formula, including over £500 million across England in 2018-19 to support disadvantaged students and therefore improving social mobility. Overall, the government plans to invest nearly £7 billion nationally during 2018-19 to ensure that there is a place in education or training for every 16 to 19 year old.</p><p> </p><p>Through the Adult Education Budget, we are continuing to invest in further education for adults aged 19 and above, including those who are furthest from the labour market, to support their progression to further study, employment or an apprenticeship. We are also supporting adults who have been motivated to move out of unemployment and are in low-paid or low-skilled jobs to upskill at no charge and to progress further.</p><p> </p><p>We are creating 3 million high quality apprenticeships that will change the lives of apprentices and the prospects of businesses. Apprenticeships disproportionately benefit people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Delivering more and better quality apprenticeships will ensure that more people from these backgrounds are enabled to gain the skills and training they need to build successful careers.</p><p> </p><p>The European Social Fund (ESF) has been an important source of skills and employment funding used to support those furthest from learning and the labour market. Following Brexit, whilst we will no longer have access to the ESF, the government has committed to create a UK Shared Prosperity Fund to reduce inequalities between communities and help deliver sustainable, inclusive growth.</p><p> </p><p>The department works closely with HM Treasury (HMT) in considering further education funding. We are considering the efficiency and resilience of the sector and assessing how far current funding and regulatory structures enable high quality provision, including vocational training. In England, we want to ensure that pupils benefit from reformed GCSEs, which are the gold standard qualification at 16. The new GCSEs are better at equipping young people with the literacy and numeracy required for further study and employment.</p><p> </p><p>Students in England who leave school without a GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and maths have to continue studying these subjects.</p><p> </p><p>Post-16 students with prior attainment of a GCSE grade 2 or below have a choice of which qualification to study including GCSEs and functional skills qualifications. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/05/2019 answer text <p>The attached table provides figures for apprenticeship starts for each month since May 2017, when significant structural changes to the apprenticeship funding system were implemented following the introduction of the apprenticeship levy and apprenticeship service.</p><p>The profile of apprenticeship starts changed significantly both in the run-up to the introduction of the levy and subsequently. Care should be taken when comparing individual months between academic years as they are unlikely to provide a meaningful year-on-year trend.
