We are protecting spending on innovation and the cutting-edge smart manufacturing technologies that will encourage digital, virtual, resource-efficient factories in the future. The High Value Manufacturing Catapult has skills, expertise and equipment available to help partner companies improve the efficiency and sustainability of their processes. As part of Autumn Statement 2015, my Rt Hon Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that funding to the nine existing Catapults would increase in real terms over the Spending Review period ensuring the UK remains a world leader in high-value manufacturing.</p><p>In addition, we are taking into account UK business opportunities during negotiations on the EU Circular Economy proposals which include aims to improve business sustainability, resource and energy efficiency.</p><br /><p>At the Summer Budget 2015, the Chancellor announced a review of the business energy efficiency tax landscape and Government launched a consultation in September. The consultation set out proposals for delivering a simpler and more stable environment for business that will reduce administrative costs and improve incentives to invest in energy efficiency. This will help increase the productivity of UK businesses, save carbon emissions and ensure secure energy supplies. However, through our ongoing discussions with manufacturers and their representatives, there has been wide recognition that the best way for Government to support manufacturers is by getting the fundamentals of the economy right. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/01/2016 answer text <p>On 14 December, the EU Commission approved our first state aid case - to commence relief from the indirect costs of the Renewables Obligation (RO) and small-scale Feed-in-Tariff (FiT). Eligible companies will be able to apply for compensation in January 2016, once scheme guidance and application forms have been published. The second state aid case - to compensate competitors of eligible Energy Intensive Industries (EIIs) - is currently being considered by the Commission.</p><br /><p>The Government is expected to pay compensation for RO/FiT costs until the exemption is implemented - the aim is to achieve that from 2017-18.</p><br /><p>This is in addition to the £50 million of support the Government has already given to the steel industry to mitigate the impact of climate change policies.</p><br /><p>This relief from energy costs will save industry hundreds of millions of pounds and will give the UK Steel Industry greater certainty around energy costs for the life of the Parliament.</p> answering member constituency Broxtowe answering member printed Anna Soubry question first answered 05/01/2016 16:54:22 answering member 3938 label Biography information for Anna Soubry
