answer text
There are 2439 core full time equivalent civil servants working in BIS, including Sheffield and other locations. The Northern Powerhouse is a key ambition of this Government which requires input from officials across BIS and other Government Departments, across a wide range of policy areas. This supports places across the North to work collaboratively to direct and benefit from the Northern Powerhouse agenda.

more like this

The Department was informed in confidence by Tata in mid-February that the company was seriously considering the closure of the Port Talbot plant. The Government was not prepared to let that happen, and together with others in Government my Rt Hon Friend worked with Tata to persuade the company to instead keep the plant open, run a sale process (which was launched by Tata on 11 April 2016), and find a new buyer.
more like this

answer text
BIS officials have engaged with counterparts in China over the past three years to support the growing UK-China relationship and advance UK interests. During the course of those engagements they received at different times the standard hospitality associated with Government to Government exchanges. In 2010, Cabinet Office issued guidance on Civil Servant receiving gifts and hospitality, which can be found on the GOV.UK website. The guidance states that civil servants are not required to record hospitality from other civil servants in government, the Devolved Administrations, the Palace, non-departmental public bodies or overseas government.
more like this

answer text
Companies House received the following number of complaints about the possible failure to register the opening of a UK establishment of an overseas company, which is a breach of the Overseas Regulations 2009, for each year since 2010. Companies House will act upon the receipt of a public complaint about a possible failure to comply with the Overseas Companies Regulations 2009 ("the Regulations"). It will carry out an initial investigation and then, if it considers that an offence may have been committed, it will refer the case to BIS solicitors to consider whether a prosecution is justified under the Code for Crown Prosecutors.
