answer text <p>A reduced drink driving limit came into effect in Scotland in December 2014, at which point rule 95 of the Highway Code was amended to reflect the change. It is essential that all road users in England, Scotland and Wales are aware of the Code.</p><p> </p><p>At the time of its introduction, the Scottish Government advertised the lower limit on both sides of the border.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>Installation of traffic lights is the responsibility of the local traffic authority. They do not have to obtain approval to do so from the Department.</p><p> </p><p>Cumbria County Council sought advice from the Department in January 2016 about placing traffic signals on the B5345 at Meadow View, but this did not constitute an application for approval.</p><p> </p><p>Legislation restricts the use of traffic lights to places where there is conflict, either between vehicles or vehicles and pedestrians. This means junctions, places where the headroom or width of the road is permanently restricted, or crossing places. The Department’s view was that this site did not fall within any of these circumstances and Cumbria County Council was advised accordingly.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Bus services in England outside London are provided commercially by bus operators with local authorities able to subsidise additional services where these are not being provided on a commercial basis. The Secretary of State has no power to intervene when bus services cease to be provided by bus operators or supported by local authorities.</p><p> </p><p>Bus operators are however required to provide a Traffic Commissioner with 56 days’ notice of their intention to cancel a local bus service, and we would encourage operators and local authorities to consult with local communities before making changes to local bus services.</p> more like this

We are currently considering consultation responses on the safe use of automated vehicle technologies and advanced driver assistance systems and intend to include appropriate advice in the Code. We have no further plans to carry out a revision of the Code. When we carry out the next revision of the Code we will as usual undertake a consultation on proposed changes to the code.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The research being conducted by Future Thinking on behalf of HS2 Ltd will include a survey targeting 16,000 responses from passengers travelling on trains. In addition to the on-train surveys, an online survey will also be issued that will target an additional 1,000 responses. The research covers passengers travelling in both directions between London and Birmingham, Manchester, Preston, Glasgow, and Crewe. HS2 Ltd expect to publish the findings of this research in due course. The cost of the research was £119,216. The contract with Future Thinking ends on 31 January 2017.</p> more like this

It is for individual bus and coach companies to decide how to respond to the action by Southern Rail.</p><p> </p><p>However, my officials are closely liaising with the Confederation of Passenger Transport, the bus and coach trade body, to determine how bus and coach operators can best assist with providing alternative transport.</p> more like this
