answer text <p>It is important to have a planning system that follows a robust legal process based on evidence, consultation with communities, and environmental impacts. The Government published an Action Plan for reforming and speeding up the Nationally Significant Infrastructure planning process in February 2023. The Action Plan includes proposals to introduce a fast-track with shorter statutory deadlines, streamline environmental assessments, and introduce cost-recovery to increase capacity in the Planning Inspectorate and statutory advisory bodies. DESNZ has updated and strengthened the Energy National Policy Statements that underpin planning for energy and networks infrastructure, and published them for consultation on 30 March 2023.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Ensuring access to supply chains and developing domestic manufacturing capacity will be key to enabling the delivery of the Governments 2030 renewable energy ambitions and broader Net Zero target.</p><p>The Government has been engaging with stakeholders across industry including transmission operators and equipment suppliers to identify key supply chain related challenges.</p><p>In addition to this, the Government continues to engage with the electricity supply chain to identify and support opportunities for investment in domestic manufacturing capacity. Recent discussion with Japanese manufacturer Sumitomo Electric resulted in their decision to establish a power cable factory in Scotland.</p> more like this

However, the government is working with fleets and industry bodies, including logistics companies, to understand and support the needs of the sector. Under the most recent price control, covering 2023-2038, electricity distribution network operators submitted business plans that took account of capacity needs in their areas, including from electric vehicle charging at depots and other locations. answer text <p>In order to meet the nuclear ambition set out in the British Energy Security Strategy, we will need to consider a range of technologies and options for deployment, including both large-scale reactors and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).</p><p> </p><p>Launched at my Rt. Hon. Friend Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Budget, Great British Nuclear (GBN) will enable Britain’s deployment of nuclear reactors beyond Sizewell C, addressing constraints in the nuclear market and delivering an ambitious civil nuclear programme. The initial focus for GBN will be on SMRs, but it will support government’s consideration of further large-scale projects beyond Sizewell C to help us deliver on our net zero ambitions.</p> more like this

answer text <p>All renewable energy projects greater than 300MW, and all Floating Offshore Wind projects bidding for support via a Contract for Difference must submit a Supply Chain Plan to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. In this plan, they must set out the actions they will take to improve their supply chain. Among these, applicants must set out how they are increasing the visibility of opportunities to make it easier for smaller firms to win contracts.
