The UK Presidency recognises the disproportionate impact climate change has on
women and girls. To achieve our long term climate goals, climate finance must deliver
on gender equality, but there is work to be done. As highlighted in our priorities
for public finance for COP26, published earlier this year, we are committed to improving
the gender-responsiveness of climate finance and ensuring that women have full and
meaningful participation in climate policy and action.

The UK has signed up
to a range of initiatives to help to encourage gender equality, including to help
women have better access to finance and enable them to participate in the transition
to a green economy. For instance, our Partnership for Forests (P4F) programme has
enabled greater female participation in designing payment-for-ecosystem-services systems
in the Amazon that benefited the whole community, giving more involvement in the decision-making
and leading to sustainable economic growth. As COP26 Presidency, we are calling on
others to take similar steps.
