answer text
The UK is committed to supporting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). We are shifting our approach in protracted crises to more effectively meet the long term needs of displaced populations through access to education and healthcare and support to livelihoods. The UK has large bilateral programmes in countries such as Syria, Iraq, Nigeria, South Sudan and Yemen that support IDPs and the communities that host them. We also support, through core and bilateral funding, some of the key UN agencies involved in responding to IDP needs, such as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
more like this

answer text
The UK is committed to meeting the needs of displaced populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs). For example, we support, through core and bilateral funding, some of the key UN agencies involved in IDP response, including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the International Organisation for Migration. In addition, the UK has large bilateral programmes in countries such as Syria, Iraq, Nigeria, South Sudan and Yemen that support IDPs and the communities that host them.

Several Member States, including the UK, are also actively exploring options with the UN to mark the 20th anniversary of the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement this year - including the idea of launching a UN High Level Panel on Internally Displaced Persons, which presents one way of galvanising further political and operational attention and action on IDPs.
more like this

answer text
Given the UN Compacts are focused specifically on refugees and migration, there may be limited scope to ensure the specific needs of internally displaced people are addressed within these particular frameworks. However, there should be common lessons to apply in terms of the importance of a longer term development response to displacement and we are considering other opportunities to raise the profile of the issue and galvanise international efforts in 2018. For example, the UK is supportive of the idea of a UN High Level Panel on internally displaced people to assess the effectiveness of the current response to internal displacement and galvanise further political and operational action. We are discussing this closely with other interested States and UN agencies.
more like this
