answer text <p>The Department for Exiting the European Union has spent a total of £46.147m on running the Department since the official creation of the Department on 14 July 2016, the day after Rt Hon David Davis was appointed as Secretary of State, until the 30 September 2017. The total amount can be broken down into £23.707m of expenditure during the 2016-17 financial year, which excludes the costs incurred by the Europe Unit of the Cabinet Office and the Europe Directorate of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office prior to 14 July 2016, and is therefore £1.548m below the total figure published in the Department’s ARA.
