<p>The Government is working to accelerate efforts to decarbonise the international
shipping sector and therefore welcomes calls from the industry for higher ambition
in the International Maritime Organization’s Initial Strategy on greenhouse gas reduction
when it is revised in 2023. The UK is committed to building consensus through the
IMO to ensure international shipping emissions peak and decline in line with the temperature
goal of the Paris Agreement.</p><p>The IMO will need robust policy measures in place
to achieve these ambitious goals, and the UK will play a leading role in shaping these
measures to ensure they are fit for purpose.</p><p> </p><p>Domestically, the UK will
reduce emissions to net zero across the whole economy by 2050, including emissions
from domestic shipping. The Transport Decarbonisation Plan, published in summer 2021,
sets out our commitments to accelerate the UK’s transition to net zero shipping.</p><p>
