<p>The Maritime & Coastguard Agency is the enforcement body for investigations and criminal prosecutions under Merchant Shipping legislation. The outcome of these civil proceedings will be taken into account when considering evidence and culpability in the event of any prosecutions in similar circumstances that are judged to be in the public interest.</p>
