The business case has been developed and the inception phase is underway. Four pilot projects have been selected in Africa and Asia. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/03/2024 answer text <p>We continue to work with industry via the Automotive Transformation Fund to support the creation of an internationally competitive electric vehicle supply chain in the UK, including gigafactories. With Government support, completion of AESC’s second Sunderland gigafactory and Tata-Agratas' £4bn gigafactory announcement will increase the UK’s committed battery capacity to over half of estimated 2030 demand.</p><p>We are also investing record sums in battery R&amp;D through the Faraday Battery Challenge, to establish the UK as a battery science superpower, with £610m committed since 2017.</p><p>In November 2023, the Advanced Manufacturing Plan announced over £2bn of capital and R&amp;D funding over five years to 2030, unlocking investment in zero emission vehicles, batteries and the wider supply chain. The last assessment of UK fill/finish capacity was carried out in mid-2021 by the Vaccines Taskforce. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/06/2023 answer text <p>As part of the Critical Minerals Strategy, we are committed to exploring the UK’s geological potential for critical minerals (including lithium) as reflected by the Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre’s (CMIC) report published on 17 April, “Potential for Critical Raw Material Prospectivity in the UK.” It is a preliminary assessment, and the Government is working with the British Geological Survey to understand next steps.</p><p>In the case of minerals for electrical vehicle batteries, end-of-life recycling is expected to provide less than 1% of UK demand in 2030.
