answer text
We advise claimants not to seek additional evidence which they may be charged for, such as from GPs. Where an assessment provider determines that additional medical evidence from a GP could prove helpful they will request that evidence from the GP directly.

GPs are obliged through their contract with NHS England to provide the assessment provider with medical evidence for Employment and Support Allowance free-of-charge. For Personal Independence Payment GPs are paid a standard fee (currently £33.50) for completing a General Practitioner Factual Report.

In the Government’s response to the recent Work and Pensions Select Committee report on Personal Independence Payment and Employment and Support Allowance Assessments we set out our commitment to continue improving the customer experience for both. For example, in order to simplify the process for claimants, we are currently exploring how data can be usefully shared between the two assessments, and opportunities for better data sharing between DWP and the NHS. We are also working to ensure better communication with claimants, in addition to working closely with both GPs and the Department of Health.

answer text
Healthcare Professionals are encouraged to take as much time as they need during an assessment to fully understand the impact of a claimant’s condition on their everyday life. In order to provide an assessment report that is medically justified and accurate, a Health Professional must undertake extensive questioning to establish how the claimant is impacted by their condition. Depending on the health condition or impairment, assessments may also include a physical examination, sight, hearing and any other tests deemed relevant. This is a comprehensive functional assessment which is tailored to the individual needs of the claimant and as such, there are no time limits set on the duration.
more like this

answer text
The Written Ministerial Statement of 20 March on Access to Work announced that the award limit, currently £42,100 per year, will rise from 1st April 2018 to £57,200 per annum. The Equality Analysis published in May 2015 identified an estimate of 200 customers with awards exceeding the level of the cap and it is estimated that many of these transitionally protected customers will benefit from the increase. In addition, some existing customers with awards at or just below the current cap may benefit when they renew their claim if their needs have increased. An Equality Analysis of the changes will be published as a formal addendum to the Equality Analysis published in May 2015.
more like this
