answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/06/2022 answer text <p>To support the processing of an unprecedented demand, Her Majesty’s Passport Office has increased its staffing numbers across the UK. 650 new staff have joined HM Passport Office since April 2021, with plans for a further 550 to have joined by the summer.</p><p>This has helped to process applications in record numbers. Data on the number of asylum applications awaiting an initial decision or further review (outstanding applications) are published in table Asy_D03 of the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/asylum-and-resettlement-datasets" target="_blank">asylum and resettlement detailed datasets</a>.</p><p>Information on how to use the datasets can be found in the ‘Notes’ page of the workbook. The latest data relates to December 2021. In partnership with the French Government, we have established a new temporary Visa Application Centre in Arras to provide extra support for those people in Calais who are eligible for our Ukraine schemes. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/03/2022 answer text <p>This Government has made its support for Ukrainians fleeing in fear of their lives clear.</p><p>We are creating safe and legal routes for Ukrainian nationals to come to the UK.</p><p>This Government has introduced two new schemes: the Ukraine Family Scheme announced on 4 March, and the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ Scheme announced by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing &amp; Communities on 14 March.</p><p>The Ukraine Family Scheme is fee-free and allows British nationals and people settled in the UK to bring family members to the UK, covering immediate family members plus parents, grandparents, children over 18 and siblings, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws. Individuals will be granted leave for three years and will be able to work and access public services and benefits.</p><p>The bespoke ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme will ultimately allow individuals, charities, community groups and businesses in the UK to bring Ukrainians to safety – including those with no family ties to the UK. There will be no limit on the number of arrivals, and those who come to the UK on the scheme will have permission to live and work here for up to three years. This government remains committed to delivering a gender-sensitive asylum system ensuring that all those who seek asylum are treated with dignity and respect.</p><p>The Nationality and Borders Bill will deliver the Government’s New Plan for Immigration – the most comprehensive reform in decades, to fix the broken asylum system. The reformed asylum system will continue to strive to provide a system which is sensitive to gender and trauma-related needs, for example continuing to provide the opportunity for all those claiming asylum to be interviewed by an individual of the same gender and a trauma informed approach to actively avoid the re-traumatisation whilst an individual is in the asylum system.</p><p>We are taking into account the recently received report ‘We want to be strong’, commissioned research, experiences of those seeking asylum and welcome engagement through our stakeholder networks.
