answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/05/2019 answer text <p>The Department is leading on the Prime Minister’s Mission to ‘Use data, Artificial Intelligence and innovation to transform the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases by 2030.’ We hope that as we work towards this overall goal, we can ensure that patients experience better care, clinicians deliver better care, commissioners are better able to commission data-driven technologies and the United Kingdom is a great place to do business in artificial intelligence for health and care.</p><p>We are working in partnership with organisations across the National Health Service, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Office for Life Sciences, Office for Artificial Intelligence and Better Regulation Executive to engage with businesses in the sector so that we benefit from the potential for artificial intelligence to improve care, deliver better outcomes, contribute to efficiency in the health and care system and contribute to the wider economy. In September 2018, we published the Code of Conduct for Data-Driven Health and Care Technology, which clearly sets out the behaviours we expect from those developing artificial intelligence and related technologies. The Code was updated in February 2019 based on feedback, including from industry partners, and we are working with them to develop case studies showing good practice in complying with the Code. We are also developing tools to help businesses comply the Code of Conduct.</p><p>We are also working closely with Health Education England as they follow through on the recommendations made by the Topol Review ‘Preparing the healthcare workforce to deliver the digital future.’</p><p>In March 2019, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence published its Evidence Standards Framework for Digital Health Technologies, outlining the evidence required by businesses to demonstrate the effectiveness and economic impact of digital health technologies.</p> answering member constituency Thurrock answering member printed Jackie Doyle-Price question first answered 13/05/2019 16:32:06 answering member 4065 label Biography information for Dame Jackie Doyle-Price

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/12/2018 answer text <p>The Department is aware of the recent Group B Strep Support report, published in December 2018, regarding clinical negligence costs incurred by the National Health Service relating to cases of Group B Streptococcus.</p><p>The Department notes the report’s recommendations regarding adherence to guidelines, which reinforce the Department’s expectation that all health professionals adhere to the relevant National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance and consider that provided by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as specifically mentioned in the report.</p><p>The Healthcare Safety Investigations Branch (HSIB) has now been established and begun rolling out its approach to investigations of unexplained severe brain injury, intrapartum stillbirths, early neonatal and maternal deaths in England so that the NHS learns from what went wrong and uses this to prevent future tragedies. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/07/2018 answer text <p>The Government is committed to championing the safe use of data, enabling data to flow in a lawful, secure and appropriate way to improve outcomes for patients.</p><p> </p><p>Sharing data offers immense promise for improving the National Health Service and social care system, as well as benefitting individuals through unlocking new treatments and medical breakthroughs and driving up quality and safe care that improves outcomes and lives.</p><p> </p><p>On 25 May 2018 the Government launched the new national data opt-out which gives people the choice of how their confidential patient information will be used beyond their direct care.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England has chosen five initial areas to become Local Health and Care Record Exemplars. These exemplars will support delivery of efficient and effective individual care. This is why the Government is committing to publishing a Green Paper by summer 2018 setting out its proposals for reform. An Inter-Ministerial Group, chaired by the First Secretary of State, is overseeing this work.</p><p> </p><p>This Government wants to take the time to consult and build consensus a long-term, sustainable settlement for the future, which includes looking at the quality of care being delivered, the funding of the system and how it will be paid for in the round. This sets out steps for recruiting and retaining 21,000 new staff across the mental health system, with the expectation that 19,000 of these places would be filled by staff employed directly by the National Health Service.
