The new legislation updates our data protection framework, and includes stronger rights for data subjects in relation to the processing of their personal data. The GDPR gives individuals the right to request that a data controller erases personal data concerning them without undue delay where the individual has withdrawn their consent. The GDPR also gives people the right to have inaccurate personal data relating to them rectified by a data controller without undue delay. That includes ensuring that people understand what information about them is being processed and why, and respecting their rights to access and erase their data, where appropriate. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/07/2018 answer text <p>Since launching our Digital Strategy last year, the Government has taken a number of steps to support digital economies across the UK, including in South Yorkshire.</p><p> </p><p>In November last year, Government invested £21 million to expand Tech City UK into a nationwide network – Tech Nation – to accelerate the growth of the digital tech sector across the country. Tech Nation will support 40,000 entrepreneurs and up to 4,000 start-ups as they scale their businesses across the country - including in South Yorkshire.</p><p> </p><p>Supported by over £3m of investment from DCMS, the Castle House project in Sheffield will act as a hub for supporting the digital economy across South Yorkshire, with this new facility providing work space and business support for local companies with a focus on digital technology and its application.</p><p> </p><p>Our £67m National Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, which provides a voucher towards the cost of installing a Gigabit (1,000 Megabits per second) capable connection, has also delivered benefits to South Yorkshire. Across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster twenty businesses have already been granted these vouchers and five of them have already gone right through to completion of a live connection.</p><p> </p><p>In July we will open up bidding for our Wave3 of the Local Full Fibre Networks Challenge Fund. Local bodies will be invited to open dialogue with us to propose projects that will stimulate the build of fibre within their region, with up to £95m of funding will be available in this round.</p><p> </p><p>Government has also announced £2.5 billion of extra funding by the British Business Bank, to unlock over £10 billion of finance and support new UK businesses in their ambitions to grow across the UK, including South Yorkshire.<strong> </strong></p><p> </p> answering member constituency Stourbridge answering member printed Margot James question first answered 03/07/2018 08:57:28 answering member 4115 label Biography information for Margot James

The UK Digital Strategy, published in March 2017, describes the steps we are taking across government:</p><p> </p><ul><li>Establishing the Digital Skills Partnership. This brings together stakeholders from the private, public and charity sectors to join efforts both nationally and locally to help people increase their digital skills at all levels. It will also build upon the 4 million pledges of free digital skills training opportunities that our corporate partners pledged as part of the Digital Strategy of which more than 2 million have already been delivered.</li></ul><p> </p><ul><li>Introducing fully-funded basic digital skills training for adults lacking these vital skills from 2020. Adults will have the opportunity to take improved basic digital courses based on new national standards setting out the basic digital skills needed to participate effectively in the labour market and day–to-day life. We will consult on these new standards in the autumn.</li></ul><p> </p><ul><li>Using the 3000 libraries across England to provide a trusted network of accessible locations with trained staff and volunteers, free Wi-Fi, computers, and other technology as well as Assisted Digital access to a wide range of digital public services where individuals are unable to access these services independently.</li></ul><p> </p><p>These initiatives will build on the significant investment Government already makes in basic digital skills training through the Adult Education offer, the budget for which is being devolved to ensure decisions on skills provision are made at a local level. Government also funds the Future Digital Inclusion programme managed by the Good Things Foundation and delivered through the 5,000 strong Online Centres network. To date this programme has supported over 800,000 adult learners to develop their basic digital skills, many of whom are socially excluded. <br></p><p>The NHS Digital Widening Digital Participation, delivered in partnership with Good Things Foundation, develops projects that enable people in England to improve their digital health skills and to increase their access to digital services and tools that support their health and care. In October last year we published the Internet Safety Strategy green paper. This sets out a range of measures which will ensure social media companies tackle online bullying.</p><p> </p><p>In her speech on 6 February, the Prime Minister confirmed that we will introduce a social media code of practice and an annual transparency report, as proposed in the green paper.
