answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/12/2020 answer text <p>The UK’s exit from the EU does not alter the fact that our energy system is resilient and secure, and UK energy is supplied from diverse sources.</p><p> </p><p>We have planned extensively for the end of the transition period, alongside National Grid and industry, to ensure electricity and gas demands are met. Electricity and gas will continue to flow over interconnectors between the UK and the EU at the end of the transition period in any scenario.</p><p> </p><p>The forecast electricity margin for this winter is healthy, at 4.8GW or 8.3% additional generation. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/12/2020 answer text <p>It will be vitally important to engage the public on the challenge of meeting our net zero target, including specifically with young people.</p><p> </p><p>In October 2020, I spoke at the first UK Youth Against Carbon Conference to listen to young people concerned about climate change and highlight to them how the UK will continue to work towards a net zero target for all of society.</p><p> </p><p>In July 2020, we also launched the ‘Involved’ Instagram page, to invite young people across the country to share their views on key issues such as climate change with the Government by asking questions through the app’s polling and stories. Responses will feed directly public consultations and wider policy making.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has welcomed the final report from the Climate Assembly UK and will be looking closely at the report’s findings. The members were selected to be broadly representative of the UK population, which means that nearly 1 in 4 of its members were young people sharing their views on how we should reach net zero.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has funded several digital tools that can help people reduce their carbon footprint, including the ‘Simple Energy Advice’ service on how to reduce energy use in the home, and the ‘Go Ultra Low’ website, providing information on Electric Cars &amp; Vans.</p><p> </p><p>Together for Our Planet, our revitalised domestic climate campaign, will aim to engage the whole country in the conversation around climate change. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/11/2020 answer text <p>Each year BEIS publishes updated energy projections (UEPs), analysing and projecting future energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in the UK. The most recently published assessment (EEP 2019) included assumptions on the transition to electric vehicles and accounted for policies which were considered firm and funded by autumn 2019. Forthcoming energy projections will be updated to account for the latest policy decisions, including ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2030.</p><p> </p><p>We expect the transition to electric vehicles to create significant new demand for electricity but also offer opportunities for flexible management of the electricity system. Smart charging during off-peak periods, when electricity demand is low, can reduce peak demand and avoid triggering unnecessary network reinforcement. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/11/2020 answer text <p>Ensuring the adequacy of local electricity grids is the responsibility of Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), and they are incentivised to do so through the regulatory framework set out by Ofgem, the independent regulator. Network investment is therefore a matter for Ofgem. However, I recognise the importance of electricity distribution network investment in meeting our objectives for the electrification of transport, taking into account the particular issues that rural areas may face such as longer distances to substations. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/11/2020 answer text <p>In order to qualify as a Green Homes Grant installer, tradespeople must be Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certified for clean heat measures and certified to the appropriate PAS standards for energy efficiency measures. This ensures improvements are completed to the high standards and consumers are protected.</p><p> </p><p>BEIS officials have taken a number of steps to engage with the building sector and promote the green home grant scheme among small building firms, including working with Trade Associations to engage with and promote interest in the scheme among a wide range of installer groups including small building firms. The Green Homes Grant, launched in September 2020, is a £2 billion programme which will help improve the energy efficiency of homes in England.
